General Sign Information

Safety signs are an important part of risk reduction for machinery–they are intended to identify and warn against specific hazards. They should be affixed to a prominent location on the machine so that they are easily seen and understood by operators and people in the machine area. Danray Products' unique, copyrighted safety signs have been designed to comply with the ANSI Z535 series of standards for the design, application, and use of signs, colors, and symbols for accident prevention. These 0.002"-thick polyester signs have a high-bond-strength acrylic adhesive by 3M that has excellent chemical resistance and holding strength even at high temperatures (up to 350°F). This adhesive is the best choice for signs that need to adhere to LSE (low surface energy) plastics, powder coatings, or oily metals.

LBL-001 Bench Grinder Warning Sign

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 for grinders is one of the most frequently cited standards for violations during OSHA inspections. This is due to improperly adjusted work rests and tongues on bench (and pedestal) grinders. According to 29 CFR 1910.215(a)(4), work rests must be kept adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of 1/8" to prevent the workpiece from being jammed between the wheel and the rest, which may cause wheel breakage. In addition, paragraph (b)(9) of this section states that the distance between the wheel periphery and the adjustable tongue or the end of the peripheral member at the top must never exceed 1/4".

Since most people are unaware of these OSHA-required adjustments on bench grinders, our exclusive, U.S. Copyright Office-registered warning sign can be affixed directly to bench grinders to remind employers and operators of the proper adjustments for compliance with the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215, ANSI B11.9, and ANSI B7.1 grinder safety standards. This sign can help reduce OSHA violations because it clearly depicts a side view of a bench grinder with arrows and large fractions showing the proper adjustments of the work rest and tongue, as well as stating these requirements in the text below.
